3 Tips to Reset Your Mind After Failure in Business

Have you taken a hit in your business that felt like a huge loss?

I know I have!

Failure and loss are a natural part of growing a business but when you get emotionally involved with what happens it is difficult to see the hidden benefits of the set back.

So here are a few tips to help you feel like a winner even as you are experiencing a perceived loss:

1)  Use Your Mind.

If you are anxious or fearful about a loss it clouds your judgment in making decisions moving forward.  Calm down and imagine the anxiety you are feeling (where ever it is in your body moving towards the front of your brain.  Your prefrontal cortex is where you can reasonably think about what really happened.

2)  Assess the Situation.

Assess what you can control in the situation (your emotions & your resources), what you can’t control (the opinion of others) and what you need to pass on to someone else. (legal, accounting, technology, whatever it may be)  Failure in business doesn’t have to be the end of the road.

3)  Get a New Perspective.

Remember your previous wins!  Remember the projects that went well, the happy clients, remember your previous personal and professional wins.  Bring out old trophies, pictures, and client letters, to remind you who you really are.

4)      Take Action.

Most importantly and even if you do none of the other 3 steps, get back into your game as soon as possible and take action!  Your ability to move back into action is the determining factor in how long it takes for you to start winning again.  You can’t win if you don’t play.
